Know where the data ends
NearBuild shows only what each council publishes. Here is what that includes and what it leaves out.
NearBuild currently covers Auckland and Wellington City only. Each region is a council's recent publication, not a complete or nationwide record.

Fields and use
How often the data updates
NearBuild checks each council's publication every hour and adds new or changed records. The councils publish less often: Auckland Council about weekly, Wellington City Council in fortnightly lists. Each record page shows two times.
- Data last updated is when NearBuild last read that council's publication successfully.
- Record fetched is when NearBuild last found this record in the council's publication. After a record drops off the council's recent list, this time stops changing.
A newer time only means NearBuild checked again. The council may not have changed the record.
What NearBuild does not show
- Building consents. NearBuild covers resource consent applications only.
- Decisions for Auckland. Auckland Council's recent applications file lists applications, not outcomes.
- Hearings, appeals, submissions or a complete status history, for either council.
- A full history. Both council sources are rolling lists of recent records. NearBuild keeps records after they leave a council's list, but older applications that were never on the list while NearBuild was collecting are missing.
- Other councils. Only Auckland Council and Wellington City Council are covered.
- Exact locations. Some addresses are mapped approximately and some can't be mapped at all. Those records still appear in search results and lists.
Wellington City Council records include the decision date when the council publishes it.
Corrections
If something on NearBuild looks wrong, use “Report a problem with this record” on the record page or send a message through the contact form. A person reads every report and usually replies by email within 2 working days.
If the mistake is ours, for example a misplaced map point or a field shown incorrectly, we fix it on NearBuild. NearBuild cannot change council records, so if the council's published record is wrong, we'll tell you and the correction has to come from the council. NearBuild picks up the council's change at the next hourly check after the council updates its publication.
